TEACHING PRINCIPALS:
I am making a special emphasys on understanding the structure of the dance, walking techniques, learning how to feel and control your own body. I promote tango primarily as a way to connect with another person and to learn how to be a partner. TANGO BY MIGUEL ZOTTO (Argentine Tango Legend): It means nothing to execute a lot of steps with the woman just having to follow you. If a guy is cold in life, he'll be cold in dance. The tango is like an art in real life; it's the character in each of us; it's the "ensemble" of life, reflecting all its idiosyncrasy. . . . tango is not a fashion, but an addiction, a drug, and as such, the more you are exposed to it, the more you become an addict. The tango is a reflection of what one is in life. Tango is about feeling and sensitivity, otherwise you are just doing gymnastics. OLD MILONGUERO EXPRESSIONS: Tango = 4 legs, 2 bodies, 1 heart. Tango is danced with your heart, not with your feet. Dancing tango steps is not dancing tango. Dance as if nobody is watching. Technical clumsiness is forgivable; emotional sloppiness is not. Who you are? 1. Beginning dancer. -- Knows nothing. 2. Intermediate dancer. -- Knows everything. Too good to dance with beginners. 3. Hotshot dancer. -- Too good to dance with anyone. 4. Advanced dancer. -- Dances everything. Especially with beginners. |
